Years ago, Tim McGraw sang a song about a woman who was angry all the time. She was unhappy with her life. Her husband couldn’t understand where and when things went so wrong. A nearly perfect country song. At the time, young in my marriage and a young mother, I couldn’t understand the song, how could anyone let their life to the point where anger takes over, when it becomes all that you feel? So, over the years I have waited for signs of this to become true. Surely, all women must feel this at one time or another, but to let it take control, to ruins one’s life, that was what I was watching out for. For women, we have to balance so much that our emotions can get away from us. Work, family obligations such as children, even parents, who require all of our attention. Home from work and we go to work again: laundry, dishes, chores, it seems a never-ending cycle. Then the added pressures that we apply ourselves, some continue higher education, the pressure to maintain the status-quo or striving for a better life. Then there’s the intimacies that we must preserve, but who’s horny after working and commuting and chores and children? So, we lose time for self-happiness as we get swept away within the crush of our daily lives. How to avoid this? How do we avoid becoming angry women? My suggestion is a balance, which is easy to say and difficult to accomplish, but necessary for self-preservation. Hold tight to what makes you happiest, don’t let go of the small things that make you an individual, and continue your hobbies when time strains and something must give. Time passes, children grow up, work becomes less important and you must enjoy the woman you’ve become. We are ever-changing with an ebb and flow like the tides. Stay strong to your core values, the difficult times will pass, and what you’ll be left with is a fantastic, happy woman, the one you’ve always wanted to be. At that time, Tim McGraw will be hard-pressed to find the makings of a country song in your life.
